Louis Schou-Hansen is a Danish artist, choreographer, and dancer based in Oslo. Their practice reflects on the human body as a vulnerable, inconvenient site of fiction, shaped by desire, mortality, and self-destruction. Intentionally situated somewhere in the mess between low and high culture, Schou-Hansen’s work often engages with history and counter-history—particularly interested in early modern Europe—to distort, twist, and reanimate unresolved histories of embodiement to produce counter-narratives. Further interests of theirs include tracing some of the thriving residues of colonial and anti-queer paradigms and how these continue to invade contemporary life.
Since 2024, they have been the initiator and curator of Mind Eater, together with Runa Borch Skolseg—a yearly parasite performance festival in Oslo, focused on emerging artists and critical discourse.
Schou-Hansen’s work has been nominated for the Norwegian Critics’ Award (Shine Utopians, 2019 - made with Harald Beharie) and Sandefjord Kunstforening’s Art Prize (2023). Their work has recently been presented at institutions including ICA – Institute of Contemporary Arts (London); Dansehallerne (Copenhagen); Dansens Hus (Oslo); NADA – New Art Dealers Alliance (New York); Kistefos Museet (Kistefos); Black Box Teater (Oslo); Roskilde Festival (Roskilde); Pogon Jedinstvo (Zagreb); Centrale Fies (Dro); Suprainfinit Gallery (Bucharest); Untitled (Tbilisi); My Wild Flag (Stockholm); Munchmuseet (Oslo); PAF – Performing Arts Forum (St. Erme); among others. They hold a BA in dance from Oslo National Academy of the Arts and and MA from the Dutch Art Institute (DAI).
